EKU FOOTBALL | Getting to know new Head Football Coach Mark Elder

03/28/2016 10:00 AM

Mark Elder is starting his first season as EKU Head Football Coach. Actually he’s starting his first season as a head coach, PERIOD. Elder was named the new Head Coach, back in December, on his 38th birthday. He replaced Dean Hood, and took over for a Colonels team that struggled down the stretch, losing three of their final four, but a squad that still finished 6-5 overall, and should have upset the Kentucky Wildcats back in October. However, with EKU shut out of the post season, and in fact looking for its first playoff win this century, Athletic Director Steve Lochmueller felt it was time for a change.

We had the chance to chat with Elder. Among the things we discussed was how Elder is making the adjustment to being the man in charge. Elder told us he feels the EKU players are “buying in” to the new staff and the new change in philosophy.
