Churchill makes $15k mistake

Denver Bronco wide receiver Wes Welker was one of the lucky ones on Derby Day. He got to cash a ticket. A lot of tickets in fact. In all Welker is reported to have collected over $57,000 in winnings but Churchill says that was almost $15,000 too much and now they want a refund.

Welker, who was smart enough to include Commanding Curve in most of his exotic wagers on the Derby which probably accounted for bulk of his winnings, went on the Dan Patrick Show and was asked about the descrepancy. When told that Churchill would like the money back Welker responded, “Yeah, well…get in line.”

A computer tote malfunction compounded by human error is the suspected culprit for the over payment. Following the Derby Welker was photographed handed out $100 bills to random fans and proclaiming that he had just won the Derby.
