Louisville wide receiver and punt returner James Quick caught two touchdown passes, accounting for a combined 235 total yards, as the Cardinals defeated Florida International 34-3. The start of the game was delayed about 75 minutes because of bad weather, but when Louisville took to the field, the Cardinals scored on their opening possession for the second week in a row, capped off by an LJ Scott 1 yard touchdown run. The game was still 7-0 in the second quarter, when Gerod Holliman turned things around. The Miami, Florida native returned an interception for a touchdown. It was one of two picks for the redshirt sophomore.
Cards sophomore quarterback Will Gardner bounced back from last weekend’s frustrating loss at Virginia, to complete 16 of 28 passes for 295 yards passing, including the two touchdowns to Quick. Quick finished with 7 catches for 174 yards. Perhaps most importantly, Gardner did not throw an interception. With the win Louisville improves to 3-1 while the FIU Golden Panthers fall to 1-3. Louisville returns home next Saturday to host Wake Forest, with a 3:30 pm kickoff. The Demon Deacons are 2-2 after beating Army Saturday.
