Coach Jeff Walz let his team know all week that Sunday night’s game would be a physical battle. It appeared they weren’t prepared for just how physical it would be. The Cards got off to a slow start and Miami built a quick lead.
Late in the first half, Megan Dienes was drilled while shooting and Walz marched all the way onto the court to question the ref about the no call. The next play was an and-one foul on Louisville and Walz’ reaction earned him a technical foul. That call proved to be the turning point of the game.
Both the crowd of 9,887 and his players rallied. The team went on a 20-3 run and never looked back.
The Cards were led by Myisha Hines-Allen, who came off the bench, with a career-high 23 points and 8 rebounds. Mariya Moore and Bria Smith each added 13 points.
Louisville is now 18-2 and 6-1 in the ACC. Next, they face Syracuse on Thursday night at home.
