Louisville saw fireworks a day early. With Thunder over Louisville set for Saturday night, on Friday evening the Cardinals first team offense lit up the sky during the red/white spring game.
Quarterback Will Gardner threw for a whopping 542 yards and 4 touchdowns as the red team (1st stringers) beat the white team (back-ups) 56-13.
Gardner seemed to have instant command of the newly installed Bobby Petrino offense, spreading the ball around to 7 different receivers. Four wide outs, DeVante Parker, Gerald Christian, Eli Rogers and James Quick, all had more than 100 yards receiving.
Running Back Michael Dyer rushed for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Afterwards, Petrino said “I’m excited about the playmakers we have.”
For the Cardinals football comes to a temporary end. Drills resume in late summer, with the season and home opener Monday September 1st against Miami.
It will be the official ACC debut for UofL, although the Cards, as a member of the AAC, also beat the Hurricanes (36-9) last December in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
