UNC’s Marcus Paige hit a go-ahead high scooping lay-up with under nine seconds to go, while Louisville’s Wayne Blackshear and Terry Rozier both missed potential game winners in the final three seconds, as the 18th ranked Tar Heels rallied to upset number 5 Louisville 72-71. The Cards looked to be in control with 7 minutes to go, up 65-55, but the Heels finished the game on a 17-6 run to ultimately grab the victory.
Rozier was the game’s high scorer, finishing with 25 points, while Chris Jones had 19 and Blackshear put in 10. Montrezl Harrell wound up with a disappointing 9 points and Chinanu Onuaku had 8. So only four Cardinals scored all 71 points. On the other hand 9 Tar Heels got on the stat sheet, led by Kennedy Meeks team high 13. With the loss, Louisville falls to 14-2 overall, 2-1 in the ACC while North Carolina improves to 12-4, and also 2-1 in the conference. UofL’s next game is Tuesday in the YUM Center as Virginia Tech comes to town.
