The Bengals came out to a slow start in Arizona for their Sunday Night Football match-up against the Cardinals. Their first series was also the starters’ first non-scoring possession of the preseason. The first team offense battled difficult field position throughout the first half. Three of the first four drives started inside the 20-yard line, and two inside the 10.

In the first quarter, Terence Newman returned a Carson Palmer interception intended for Larry Fitzgerald to score the only Bengals touchdown of the game. It was Newman’s second interception of the preseason.

Dalton entered halftime 13-for-21 and 157 yards passing with the Bengals leading 13-3. Cincinnati called it a night for Dalton after halftime.

After being challenged to step up after last week’s game against the Jets, the back-ups responded in Arizona by finishing the game strong and getting the Bengals first win of the preseason.

Cincinnati struggled with injuries throughout the night. Vontaze Burfict left the game in the first half with a hamstring injury. T.J. Johnson, James Wright, Trey Hopkins, and Devon Still all also left the game and didn’t return. There were four injuries in the fourth quarter with three players (Hopkins, Wright, and Johnson) carted off the field.

Former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was 7-for-19 for 92 yards and 1 interception for the Cardinals.
