Bengals banged up after 33-20 loss to Steelers; Dalton could be done for season

“We don’t like them, they don’t like us” seemed to be the theme all week leading up to this game and it was just as chippy as promised. It started with a scuffled during pregame warmups and the physical confrontations lasted all game long. The game ended up as a brutal one for the Bengals.

Early in Sunday’s game, Cincinnati lost Andy Dalton to a right thumb injury. After throwing an interception, Dalton attempted to make a tackle and the quarterback says that’s when he sustained the injury. After the game, Dalton said he has a fracture and will be seeing a hand specialist on Monday. Marvin Lewis confirmed that Dalton will not play next week, but they otherwise have no official timeline yet, although several sites including ESPN and CBS are reporting Dalton could be done for the season. In his absence, he’ll be replaced by former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, who played the remainder of Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

Dalton wasn’t the only injury for the Bengals, though. George Iloka left the game in the first half after re-aggravating his groin injury. Tyler Eifert suffered a concussion in the first quarter and never returned. Vontaze Burfict was taken in and out throughout the game monitoring hits to the head, but was never officially put under concussion protocol.

The Bengals missed out on their chance to clinch the AFC North and a playoff spot in today’s game but still have a two game lead on the Steelers. They still have the potential of clinching a playoff spot with a Kansas City loss tonight, otherwise they’ll look to clinch with a win at San Francisco next week.
