Back-to-back visits to Omaha signal commitment to program

For the second time in two years, Louisville will open a run for a College World Series title this weekend. The Cards (50-15) will face Vanderbilt (46-19) in Omaha on Saturday — a team they have beaten three times, including twice in last year’s Super Regionals and once this season.

The UofL College World Series roster will include a significant mix of freshmen young bloods and experienced players. ESPN 680’s Drew Deener says a return to Omaha in a single college career is rare.

Following the team’s win over Kennesaw State in the Super Regionals last weekend, head coach Dan McDonnell got emotional when discussing the recent accomplishments of Cards baseball. Deener says that emotion is an indication of the support the program has and the commitment of UofL athletics officials.

First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
