Another race, another jockey for Ride On Curlin

Preakness runner-up Ride On Curlin will have a new jockey in the saddle when he takes the track for the Belmont Stakes on June 7th. In a move first reported by the Daily Racing Form, jockey Joel Rosario, who rode Ride On Curlin in the Preakness, will switch mounts and ride Tonalist.

The move came as no surprise to Ride On Curlin trainer Billy Gowan. Rosario had ridden Tonalist two previous times out including his victory in the Peter Pan last weekend at Belmont.

“You know every race we’ve got to change,” Gowan told USA Today. “We’re going to go through the whole jockey colony before it’s over with.”

Hall of Famer John Velazquez will be the next jockey to suit up for Ride On Curlin. Velazquez won the Belmont in 2007 aboard Rags To Riches and again in 2012 with Union Rags.

This will be the fifth jockey in the last five races for Ride On Curlin. Calvin Borel rode the colt to a seventh place finish in the Kentucky Derby. Rosario took over for the Preakness Stakes and now Velazquez at the Belmont.
