WESTERN KENTUCKY

-Western is standing behind assistant coach Jake Morton, who was named in the University of Miami fiasco. Morton was an assistant to head basketball coach Frank Haith at Miami.

HIGH SCHOOLS
-High school football kicks off tonight. The C-J’s Jody Demling has his list of the Top 50 football players in Kentucky

-The Herald-Leader’s Mike Fields writes about two senior running backs who have a chance at breaking Derek Homer’s career state rushing record this season. One of them is Central’s Anthony Wales, who is being recruited by both U of L and UK. Wales’ Yellowjackets open the season Friday night against Manual, who’s led by University of Kentucky commit Thomas Chapman. Chapman is a four-star defensive lineman. The Crimsons also have one of the state’s top running backs in senior DarMontre Warr, who’s received scholarship offers from Indiana and Illlinois.
