Trinity Lands 7th Region Tournament

Trinity landed in the seventh region tournament by cruising past Central 52-41 during last night’s regional semifinal at Valley. Neither team stood out in the first half, with Central shooting 29-percent and Trinity just 26-percent. The Shamrocks held a 16-14 halftime lead. But the Rocks came out strong in the third quarter, putting together an 11-2 run to make it 27-16 with four-and-a-half minutes left. Trinity and Ballard Re-Match in the 7th Region Final

Ballard will get a chance to avenge their 53-52 loss to Trinity in last month’s LIT when the two teams square off against one another in the Seventh Region Tournament on Saturday. Last night, the Bruins dismantled Male 59-49 in the semifinals. Ballard scored 22 points off 25 Male turnovers and got a game-high 19 points from UofL commit Quentin Snider. The recognition keeps piling up for Louisville junior guard Russ Smith, except this time he’s getting noticed for his work on the classroom instead of the hardwood. Smith, who leads the No. 11 Cards with over 18 points a game, Smith has been honored with a 2013 Academic Momentum Award, as presented by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Scholar Baller program. Ace Wales Opts for Western

Louisville Central star running back Anthony Wales, who publicly committed to the University of Louisville last month, pulled a last-minute surprised and has signed with Western Kentucky. Wales, the state’s third-career leading rusher with 8,213 yards and led the Yellowjackets to three Class 3A state titles. Wales suffered a shoulder injury in the state playoffs and will need some to rehab.  Read more 

Towles, Chapman sign with UK

Highlands quarterback Patrick Towles and Manual defensive tackle Thomas Chapman sent their national letters-of-intent to the University of Kentucky on Wednesday. Towles, who won Mr. Kentucky football honors this season, is the highest-ranked member of Joker Phillips’ 2012 recruiting class, with Chapman, a 6-foot-4, 290-pounder coming in at No. 2.
