Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic

A veritable who’s who of future college basketball stars will suit up for the annual Derby Festival Classic this Friday night. Players include UK signees Dominique Hawkins and Derek Willis, UofL signees Anton Gill and Akoy Agau, and three McDonald’s All-Americans.

Marion County Wins State Championship

Marion County’s Makayla Epps scored 15 points to lead the Lady Knights to a 52-36 win over Notre Dame in the state title game of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16.
The win clinched an undefeated season for the Region five champion Lady Knights, who were runners up last year. Epps, who is a UK signee and the Gatorade Kentucky Girls Player of the Year, was also named the Sweet 16’s Most Valuable Player. Fellow UK signee Kyvin Goodin-Rogers scored 10 points... Read more

Madison Central wins the 2013 KHSAA Boys' Sweet 16

Ken-Jah Bosley hit a 3 pointer over two defenders with 2.2 seconds to play as Madison Central won its first Kentucky boys’ Sweet 16 basketball state championship, 65-64 over Ballard on Sunday. Bosley finished with 20 points, and his 14 in the fourth quarter kept the Indians in the game when Ballard looked ready to overcome their deficit. Warren Central Wins 4th Region

The Warren Central Dragons are heading to the Sweet 16 with a 56-48 win over Russell County in the Region 4 championship in Western Kentucky. Chris Porter-Bunton led the Dragons, scoring 15 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Holmes Wins 9th Region over Covington Catholic 62-60

11th ranked Holmes is heading to the Sweet 16 after holding off 23rd ranked Covington Catholic 62-60 in the 9th Region tournament at Northern Kentucky University. Holmes’ James Bolden scored 14 of his 26 points in the second quarter, including going 9-for-10 from the free-throw line before being fouled out. Hawkins Leads Madison Central to 11th Region Win

One of the hottest prospects in the state will be on display this week as Dominique Hawkins led Madison Central to the Sweet 16 with a 67-46 win over Lexington Catholic Saturday night at Eastern Kentucky.
Hawkins, who has attracted recent attention from the University of Kentucky, had 18 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists for the Indians, who will be making their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2006.

PRP Beats Butler in 6th Region Final

Dale Mabrey and the PRP Panthers are headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006. The Panthers held off Butler 53-44 in the Sixth Region Championship at Valley on Saturday. PRP senior guard Taywan Taylor celebrated his 18th birthday by leading the Panthers with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Ballard Knocks off Trinity 57-46

Ballard High School will return to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2010 after knocking off Trinity 57-46 in the seventh regional tournament. The second-ranked Bruins used a big third-quarter run to knock off the defending champions and top-ranked Shamrocks, avenging last year’s 58-55 region semifinal loss. Future Card Quentin Snider had a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Ballard, while Darryl Hicks had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Trinity.
