UofL Women Fall To UConn In National Championship Game

A day after the Louisville men’s basketball team celebrated a championship, the women couldn’t keep up with UConn. The Huskies won their eighth title in dominating fashion 93-60.
The Huskies’ defense locked down and kept the Cardinals shooting under 40 percent and held UofL to only five three-pointers out of 23 attempts. Fans Celebrate Louisville's National Championship At Home

Even before the final buzzer sounded, Cardinal fans poured out of bars into blocked off streets near campus to celebrate Louisville’s third national championship. There were a few fireworks and lots of cheering.

After 26 years of waiting, the University of Louisville basketball team again cut down the nets.
The first half lived up to the hype as a battle of the backcourts but not because of the much-heralded Trey Burke for Michigan or Louisvilleās leaders Peyton Siva and Russ Smith.

Coach Pitino said in today’s press conference that the great thing about college basketball is that non-power conference teams, like Wichita State, can make it to the Final Four. He said when he saw Wichita State beat VCU in November he called his son Richard and told him to watch out for the Shockers back then.

It was the Schimmel show in Oklahoma City Wednesday night as guards Shoni Schimmel and her younger sister Jude combined for 34 points, including several key shots in the final two minutes to put away Tennessee.
The Lady Cards outlasted the second-seeded Volunteers, who pulled within four points with three minutes left after being down by as many as 20 points earlier in the second half.

Kevin Ware Undergoes Successful Surgery, Teammates React To Injury

The University of Louisville announced late tonight that guard Kevin Ware underwent successful surgery at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to repair a broken bone in his right leg. Ware suffered the injury with six and a half minutes left in the first half of UofL’s win over Duke.
