The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team looked the part as a No. 1 seed against Stanford Friday night in Rupp Arena. Louisville had the lead at the end of the first quarter, 25-19, and from that point on they didn’t look back as they continued to stretch the lead. H.S. BASKETBALL | 2017-18 KHSAA Mr & Miss Kentucky Basketball

For the first time in the history of the KHSAA Mr. & Miss Kentucky Basketball, the winners are from the same school. Trevon Faulkner and Seygan Robins, both from Mercer County, won the award. On Sunday, Robins was named the Sweet Sixteen MVP after leading Mercer County to back-to-back state championships. Trevon Faulkner will attend Northern Kentucky University and Robins has signed to play for the University of Louisville.  Read more 

EKU BASKETBALL | Colonels overcome 15 point first half deficit to win 91-88

Despite giving up 16 three-pointers, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (11-19, 5-12 OVC) pulled out a 91-88 victory over Southeast Missouri State (14-16, 8-9 OVC) on senior night at McBrayer Arena. Senior Dillon Avare had 4 three-pointers in the second half and recorded a game-sealing block with 11 seconds left, the first of his career. The Kentucky Wildcats (12-11, 4-5 SEC) defeated the Auburn Tigers (11-10, 2-7 SEC) 65-48 on Thursday night in Memorial Coliseum to win their third straight SEC game. After a slow start in the first quarter Kentucky was able to find a little offense in the second quarter to head into halftime with a four point lead. Tonight was a night the Kentucky Wildcat’s women’s basketball team have been waiting for. The Wildcats put together a dominating fourth quarter to extend a five point lead going into the fourth to a convincing 25 point victory over Alabama in Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky (10-11, 2-5 SEC) beat Alabama (14-7, 4-4 SEC) 79-54 on Thursday night. There seemed to be a little more pep in the Wildcats’ step on Sunday in Rupp Arena as they took on #10 South Carolina. The struggle continues for Kentucky (8-9, 0-3) as they lost their eighth straight on Sunday afternoon to Georgia 42-56. Georgia did not make it easy for Kentucky, as the Bulldogs had 13 blocks and the Wildcats shot a season low 20.4 percent, going 11-of-54 from the field. The University of Kentucky women’s basketball struggled defensively against #3 Louisville in Memorial Coliseum on Sunday. Kentucky (8-4) lost to #3 Louisville 87-63 and now have a three game losing streak. Maci Morris led UK with 16 points but most of those points came in the second half when Louisville had command of the game. The No. 3 Louisville women’s basketball team continued with a balanced attacked offensively on Sunday afternoon to help the Cardinals remain undefeated this season with a win over Kentucky.
