Garrett is a Sports Producer for Spectrum News. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State and got his start as a sports photographer. He now produces Sports Night, the state’s only nightly show dedicated to in-depth coverage of all sports in Kentucky. Sports Night airs weeknights at 6:30 and 10:30 on Spectrum News or anytime with Spectrum On Demand. Outside the station, Garrett enjoys golfing, hiking, fishing, and prides himself on being all-in as a sports spectator. He won a gift card for playing an air guitar in the student section during an MTSU basketball game. There are only 15 days until the start of Louisville’s 2017 football season. The team heads to Indianapolis on September 2 for a game against Purdue in Lucas Oil Stadium. The Louisville football team named team captains earlier this week. No surprise one of them is reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Joining him on the offensive side of the football is running back Reggie Bonnafon and offensive lineman Geron Christian. The defensive captains are cornerback Jaire Alexander and safety Chucky Williams. The University of Louisville volleyball team has spent the last several seasons hosting matches in the KFC Yum! Center, but are moving to Cardinal Arena on the school’s campus starting this season. The move is part of the University’s new lease agreement with the Yum! Center, and it will create a much different atmosphere for the fans and players. Details of the University of Louisville’s appeal of NCAA sanctions were made public Friday afternoon. In documents sent to Spectrum News by the university, the institution calls the penalties issued by the NCAA Committee on Infractions “draconian” and states the COI “abused its discretion.” Among additional scholarship restrictions and an institutional fine, the school is prepared to accept a number of penalties handed down by the COI. University of Louisville Women’s Basketball head coach Jeff Walz is in Tokyo, Japan right now. He is the head coach of the U.S. National U-23 team and is assisted by Western Kentucky head coach Michelle Clark-Heard and Princeton head coach Courtney Banghart. Walz and Clark-Heard have a history of coaching together. The two have been freinds for nearly 20 years, and Clark-Heard was an assistant on Walz’s staff at Louisville. Western Kentucky football had a new face on the practice field yesterday. Cameron Echols-Luper has joined the program as a graduate transfer from Arkansas State. Echols-Luper is a native of Ennis, Texas and played two seasons at TCU before transferring to ASU. He will be one of the fastest players on the WKU roster. Louisville football has a unique circumstance in the offensive backfield this season: three similarly sized seniors competing for starting tailback.
