After a disappointing loss to Florida in Omaha, the Louisville Cardinals now face elimination in the College World Series on Thursday when they take on TCU. The Horned Frogs are making their fourth consecutive trip to Omaha but Voice of the Cardinals Sean Moth says the Cards are in a good place. On Friday, Louisville lefthanded pitcher and first baseman Brendan McKay received the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy. The announcement was made during a live broadcast from Omaha on MLB Network. The Dick Howser Trophy is presented each year to the nation’s top collegiate baseball player. McKay is the first Cardinal to win the award. University of Louisville junior left-handed pitcher and first baseman Brendan McKay has been named one of four finalists for the 2017 Golden Spikes Award. The award is presented each year to the top amateur baseball player in the nation. McKay has already earned two national Player of the Year honors and Wednesday’s honor marks the second consecutive season a Louisville player has been among the finalists for the Golden Spikes Award. For the fifth straight season, the University of Louisville was one of 16 sites to be chosen on Sunday to host the opening weekend of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Regional is set to begin on Friday, June 2. The Cardinals are making their 10th NCAA postseason appearance in the last 11 seasons and the program’s 11th NCAA appearance overall. H.S. TENNIS | North Oldham middle school duo wins high school state title

There are multiple new state title holders across Kentucky in high school sports this week. Several state championship competitions were held just this past weekend, including the tennis state championships. North Oldham High School took home the girls doubles title. With the deadline to withdraw from the draft looming, Louisville’s Deng Adel announced his return for his junior season. At a press conference just a few hours later, head coach Rick Pitino said Adel worked out for seven different teams. Pitino said doing so helped Adel evaluate his goals for his junior season. Always Dreaming is the winner of the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. Lookin At Lee came in second with Battle of Midway finishing third. Always Dreaming, trained by Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, started the race with 9-2 odds. He finished with jockey John Velazquez aboard, who also won the 2011 Kentucky Derby with Animal Kingdom. Always Dreaming paid out $11.40 on a $2 bet to win.
