Andrew Chernoff

Andrew is a sports anchor and sports managing editor for Spectrum News. He covers sports all across the state of Kentucky for Sports Night, which airs weeknights at 6:30 and 10:30 on Spectrum News and anytime with Spectrum On Demand. Andrew was a sports anchor and reporter at KFDM/KBTV in Beaumont, Texas for four years before making the move back home to the Midwest. He is originally from Carmel, Indiana and majored in broadcast journalism and political science at Syracuse University.

When he’s not on the air or in the field covering sports, you can likely find Andrew playing golf, watching IndyCar and Formula 1 races, or exploring the state of Kentucky. His favorite sport is open-wheel racing. In fact, he has not missed an Indianapolis 500 since the early 2000s.

Whether he is working sporting events or not, he always loves talking sports. The Louisville men’s basketball team was hoping to leave the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday with a win, after falling to No. 2 Virginia on the road Wednesday. The Louisville men’s basketball team is getting ready to play Florida St. for the second time in less than a month. The Cards (16-6, 6-3) and Seminoles (16-6, 5-5) tip off at 4 p.m. ET inside the KFC Yum! Center. Louisville beat then-No. 23 Florida St. in Tallahassee, Fla. 73-69 back in January. FC Cincinnati is getting ready to head down to Florida as the 2018 USL regular season gets closer and closer. The Orange and Blue will travel to Bradenton, Fla. on Friday to continue preseason training at the IMG Academy. The Kentucky Derby Festival announced on Thursday that there will not be a Derby Festival Basketball Classic in 2018. The John Hardin boys basketball team picked up its third win in a row on Tuesday night, beating Elizabethtown 84-81. It was another 20-point performance for Bulldogs’ star guard/forward Mickey Pearson. Pearson, who many believe has a shot to be Kentucky Mr. Basketball, is having a solid season, averaging 27.2 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. Louisville football head coach Bobby Petrino introduced Brian VanGorder on Wednesday as the program’s new defensive coordinator. VanGorder comes to Louisville after spending last season as a defensive analyst at Oklahoma St. Prior to that, he was the defensive coordinator for three seasons at Notre Dame. Long track speedskater Erin Jackson is getting ready for her first-career Olympic Winter Games. The Ocala, Fl. native qualified for a spot on Team USA during the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Kentucky forward Kevin Knox was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, thanks to his impressive performances last week. The honor is the first of Knox’s UK career.
