Andrew Chernoff

Andrew is a sports anchor and sports managing editor for Spectrum News. He covers sports all across the state of Kentucky for Sports Night, which airs weeknights at 6:30 and 10:30 on Spectrum News and anytime with Spectrum On Demand. Andrew was a sports anchor and reporter at KFDM/KBTV in Beaumont, Texas for four years before making the move back home to the Midwest. He is originally from Carmel, Indiana and majored in broadcast journalism and political science at Syracuse University.

When he’s not on the air or in the field covering sports, you can likely find Andrew playing golf, watching IndyCar and Formula 1 races, or exploring the state of Kentucky. His favorite sport is open-wheel racing. In fact, he has not missed an Indianapolis 500 since the early 2000s.

Whether he is working sporting events or not, he always loves talking sports. UK BASEBALL | Pair of Wildcats Named Preseason All-Americans

Kentucky baseball players Sean Hjelle and Tristan Pompey have each been recognized as First-Team Preseason All-Americans by College Baseball and Perfect Game, respectively. Pitcher Sean Hjelle was named a First-Team Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and a Third-Team Preseason All-American by Perfect Game. Last season, Hjelle was the SEC Pitcher of the Year after going 11-4 with a 3.89 ERA. He struck out 102 batters in the process. UK FOOTBALL | Ware Suspended from Music City Bowl

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops announced on Tuesday that linebacker Denzil Ware has been suspended from this week’s Music City Bowl. Stoops cited a violation of team rules. Ware has 47 total tackles this year, including nine for loss. He is also responsible for 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. The Wildcats (7-5) will kickoff their bowl game against No. 21 Northwestern (9-3) at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday inside Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.  Read more 

UK BASKETBALL | Wildcats Drop Second Game of the Season

The Kentucky men’s basketball team’s seven-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The UCLA Bruins (9-3) were too much for the Wildcats (9-2), winning 83 to 75 in the CBS Sports Classic. The game was tied 39-39 at halftime, but the Bruins pulled away in the second half to get the win. The Kentucky football team accepted a bid to play in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Sunday. The Wildcats (7-5) will face Northwestern (9-3) in Jacksonville on Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m. ET. The annual “Governor’s Cup” match-up between Louisville and Kentucky football will kickoff at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 25. The game will air on SEC Network. For the first time since 2009, the UK football team beat the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, Tn. After trailing 7-0 early in the game, Kentucky (7-3, 4-3) scored the game’s next 34 points, en route to a 44-21 win over Vandy (4-6, 0-6). UK HOOPS | Wildcats Win Exhibition Sunday Night

The Kentucky women’s basketball team took care of business on Sunday night in its lone exhibition of the season. The Wildcats beat Southern Indiana 87-56 inside Memorial Coliseum. UK led over 33 minutes in the contest, and pulled away from USI for good in the second quarter, when the Wildcats outscored the Screaming Eagles 21-7. It’s never too early to look ahead to next year. Despite the 2017 UK football season only heading into its fourth week, the 2018 schedule was released on Tuesday. The 2018 slate features seven home games and five road games. The Wildcats will open the 2018 schedule on Sept. 1 at Kroger Field against Central Michigan.
