Andrew Chernoff

Andrew is a sports anchor and sports managing editor for Spectrum News. He covers sports all across the state of Kentucky for Sports Night, which airs weeknights at 6:30 and 10:30 on Spectrum News and anytime with Spectrum On Demand. Andrew was a sports anchor and reporter at KFDM/KBTV in Beaumont, Texas for four years before making the move back home to the Midwest. He is originally from Carmel, Indiana and majored in broadcast journalism and political science at Syracuse University.

When he’s not on the air or in the field covering sports, you can likely find Andrew playing golf, watching IndyCar and Formula 1 races, or exploring the state of Kentucky. His favorite sport is open-wheel racing. In fact, he has not missed an Indianapolis 500 since the early 2000s.

Whether he is working sporting events or not, he always loves talking sports. The Eastern Kentucky men’s basketball team is hoping to snap a six-game losing streak this week. The Colonels (8-17, 2-10) host UT Martin (8-17, 3-9) on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET inside McBrayer Arena, before hosting Morehead St. (6-17, 2-10) on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. NASCAR | Kentucky Speedway Preparing for 2018 Season

The 2018 NASCAR season is quickly approaching as next week is “Speedweeks at Daytona.” That means NASCAR weekend at Kentucky Speedway is roughly only five months away. Kentucky Speedway held a southern media luncheon on Tuesday in Louisville. LOUISVILLE BATS | Bats Introduce Pat Kelly as New Manager

The Louisville Bats introduced new manager Pat Kelly on Tuesday afternoon. Kelly replaces Delino DeShields, who led the Bats from 2015-2017, compiling a record of 191-239 (.444). Kelly comes to Louisville after spending the past three seasons as manager of the Reds’ Double-A affiliate Pensacola Blue Wahoos. While there, he led the Wahoos to a 218-200 (.522) overall record. H.S. FOOTBALL | Kevin Wallace Introduced as St. X Head Coach

St. Xavier High School (Louisville) introduced Kevin Wallace as its new head football coach on Tuesday afternoon. Wallace replaces Will Wolford, who stepped down from his position in December. Wallace comes to St. X after serving as head coach of the Bowling Green High School football team since 2011. During his tenure at Bowling Green, he led the Purples to five state titles. UofL BASKETBALL | Cards Drop Third Straight Game

The Louisville men’s basketball team was hoping to snap a two-game losing streak on Monday night inside the KFC Yum! Center. Instead, the streak increased to three games. The Syracuse Orange (16-8, 5-6) were too much for the Cards (16-8, 6-5) as the Orange won 78-73. Syracuse led for over 30 minutes in the game. LOUISVILLE CITY FC | LCFC Finalizes Transfer of Mark-Anthony Kaye

Louisville City FC has transferred midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye to the MLS’ LAFC. The WKU softball team is getting ready to begin its 2018 regular season later this week. The Lady Toppers are coming off a 31-31 season in which they finished 10-13 in Conference USA play. Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell will take part in the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend. Mitchell replaces Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon who withdrew due to a hip injury. No. 21 Kentucky men’s basketball’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats (17-6, 6-4) fell to Missouri (15-8, 5-5) in Columbia, Mo. by the final score of 69-60. The 60 points is a season low for the Wildcats. Missouri controlled most the game, leading for over 33 minutes out of the game’s 40 total minutes.
